After my comments about diagrams and UML I checked out the history of diagrams.
I found a very nice presentation on the topic here, it follows them from the earliest - Maps, Geometrics etc on - thanks Nottingham university and Thannasis.
It happens to be also a very good introduction to UML. Now, my types of diagram such as those for Unit and, Equipment Modules, Operations and Phases etc are not really part of the classic UML set, but it is quite easy to see how they could be part of a Control Modeling Language that conforms with much of the UML rules.
Maybe if I get time I will write it up. Or introduce the idea to S88 Part 5.
